So what did you get up to over Easter?
Tom
This Easter was bookmarked by lasagne – first at my neighbour’s, then at my Mum’s – and a lovely bluebell walk/scavenger hunt (with Easter Egg prizes) with the boys

Harry
Highlight of my Easter weekend was very much watching the mighty Saints take down Arsenal in the FA cup. Had a lot of highs and lows over the years following Southampton but Saturday was right up there at the top

Alita
My Easter was split between time with friends and continuing to try and declutter my house. I can not believe how much stuff I have managed to get out of the house and yet it still feels full! Socially there was a lot of food, and wine, involved but actually very little chocolate this year.
Ava
Befriended a neighbour’s cat!

We ended up doing a full historic tour of St Albans on Sunday – having lived here for nearly 10 years I’ve never been to the town hall/museum, so we started there, then went up the Clock Tower, to get an Alban bun, then to see the mosaic in Verulamium Park. It was really fun and I’d highly recommend it – although the Clock Tower is a bit of a tight squeeze…

Was a busy Easter - had the family over on Saturday where i cooked pork 3 ways - pulled, roasted and pork chops plus potatoes 3 ways - we were all very stuffed after baking an orange cake too!
Then Sunday we went to a friends for a roast dinner, Monday we went to see Paul's sister which ended up doing a bit of shopping - perfect end to a wonderful weekend
😊
Jo
My Easter very much revolved around chocolate eggs with my daughter getting the biggest haul I've ever seen!

We were lucky enough to spend Easter in sunny Nice and even luckier that the apartment we were staying in was directly opposite one of the loveliest chocolate and cake shops in the city!
After spending the week watching queues of people collect enormous boxes of cakes and chocolate eggs, we had to see what the fuss was all about!
We weren't disappointed! These little gateaux were the most delicious cakes I've ever eaten, and if I won the lottery, I'd have brought some back for us all!! 😉

5 things you might not know about Easter 🐣
🐰1. The Easter Bunny has unusual origins
The Easter Bunny actually comes from German folklore. A hare called “Osterhase” would lay eggs for children to find—yes, a hare laying eggs
🍫 2. Chocolate eggs are a relatively modern tradition
The first chocolate eggs appeared in Europe in the 19th century, especially in countries like France and Germany. Early ones were solid and quite bitter compared to today’s sweet treats.
🏃♂️ 3. Good Friday Hot Cross Buns were believed to protect against bad luck
In the early 18th century, biscuits and buns baked on Good Friday were believed never to go mouldy and to be capable of curing diseases. Some were even hung in homes and were thought to protect against misfortune
📅 4. Easter doesn’t have a fixed date
Unlike Christmas, Easter changes every year. It falls on the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox—based on an old calculation tied to lunar cycles
🌍 5. Different countries celebrate in unique ways
-
In Sweden, children dress up as little witches and go door-to-door for treats. It mixes Easter with old folklore.
-
In Greece, people dye eggs red and try to crack each other’s eggs. The last unbroken egg is said to bring good luck!
-
In Australia, the Easter Bunny is sometimes replaced by the Easter Bilby (a native animal).
Earth Day
23rd April we will be providing everyone with a pot, soil and seeds to plant a flower, veg or fruit seed and watch it bloom. You can grow it from home, nurture it on your desk or pop it on a sunny sill in the office… wherever you think it’ll thrive.
It’ll be great to share plant-progress as Spring unfolds. Who will be crowned Kokoro's greenest thumb?

Poem by John Jussey
Bank Holiday in the Park
Bags fat with suncream, hats, and towels,
we form an arc
before that parody of seasides the ornamental lake.
We hunch for hours
as stiff green wavelets flop against the concrete lip,
and all the park
is thick with those who didn’t get away –
the gulls moored up like damaged ships,
the kids at play
without a thought for what’s beyond
the sun-struck cars, the neutered trees.
I watch the swans
pretending they’re not slumming it,
the couples round their potted sea,
their weekends ‘Quiet’ when probed next day.
And still I sit
as swallows write their cursive lines
and tell of all that we’ve not seen –
the wheatfields and the squares of pine,
the Spanish umbers, Breton greens.
They seem to say
that something hunched inside of us will never get away.
